Where to Stay |
| If you are a staff sergeant or below unaccompanied by your family, you will receive temporary billeting at the Welcome Center, Bldg. 1218. A large number of hotels and motels, with a wide variety of rates, are located within a short distance of Fort Carson. The housing office will assist you with finding accommodations. Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) can be paid for up to ten days, starting with the day you sign in. The Colorado Inn, the post's temporary lodging facility, is operated on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are accepted up to 60 days in advance. Families on valid orders are housed on a priority basis. Currently, there are 150 single and family rooms with efficiency units, smoking and non smoking available. The cost per room is $37 a day for a single room, $47 a day for a double room, $57 for a DVQ and $2 for each additional occupant over 15. Children under 15 stay for free. For information or reservations call (719) 526-4832 or DSN 691-4832. The Colorado Inn operates 24 hours a day, and is located in Bldg. 7301 on Woodfill Road. DA Civilians |
| Department of the Army civilians should report to Bldg. 6223, Prussman Avenue, at 7:30am on the first day of their employment at Fort Carson. For information regarding employment at Fort Carson, call (719) 526-4524 or DSN 691-4524 Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC) manages the Civilian Sponsorship Program. Every organization on post has an assigned Personnel Management Specialist that handles civilian personnel issues. When a new employee is hired, the Personnel Management Specialist asks the organization to appoint a sponsor. The sponsor's responsibilities include sending a sponsor package and welcome letter, answering questions about the post and community, and helping the new employee get settled in the unit and community. Civilian sponsors are encouraged to attend Sponsorship Training offered by ACS. CPAC briefs inbound civilians on relocation benefits and entitlements. Arrival support for new civilian employees is handled by CPAC and the assigned sponsor. A new employee orientation is scheduled quarterly. CPAC also briefs outbound civilians on relocation benefits and entitlements and encourages them to visit ACS for relocation planning assistance. |
Uniforms |
| BDUs are the duty uniform at Fort Carson. The post has an off-post uniform policy, which normally allows the wearing of BDUs. Soldiers should contact their unit for more information regarding the uniform policy. |
Climate |
The Colorado Springs area has a mild year-round climate. Temperatures in January, the coldest month, average a high of 43 degrees and a low of 23 degrees with a mean of 33 degrees. August, the warmest month, has an average high of 84 degrees and a low of 61 degrees with a mean of 73 degrees. The area averages 42.4 inches of snow annually. Fort Carson's elevation is above 6,000 feet and some newcomers experience slight fatigue at first. Because of the high elevation, all new personnel are allowed 30 days to adjust to the altitude and to reach the Fort Carson fitness standards. |
